Questions, answered.
The stuff people ask most. If yours isn't here, drop us a line.
Do I need an account?
Nope. Paste your license key on first launch and you're in. No login, no cloud account, no email required.
What API keys do I need?
Just one AI provider key (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini) to unlock narration, drafts, and Director scoring. Everything else is optional:
- YouTube — search and import video clips
- Pixabay — CC0 image and GIF search
- Freesound — Creative Commons background music
You bring your own keys. Your usage, your costs, your control.
Can I use FlowFrame without any AI?
Yes — and a lot of people do. Capture, step editing, recording your own narration, snippets, background music, and MP4 / GIF / HTML export all work locally with no API key, no subscription, and no internet round-trip.
AI keys are the optional superpower layer: the Director (quality scoring + one-click fixes), AI narration voices, content suggestions, video analysis, and agent automation via MCP. The full breakdown is here.
How many machines can I use it on?
Up to 3 per license. If you swap machines, just deactivate one from the app to free a slot — takes about ten seconds.
Where does my data go?
Your projects, media, exports, and API keys all stay on your Mac. Full stop.
When you use an AI feature, the app calls the provider directly (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), so your prompts and footage go to whoever you brought the key for — never through us.
The main call we make is a periodic license heartbeat to our Cloudflare Worker. It checks that your license is valid; that's it. The request carries your license key and a machine fingerprint — no project content, no media, no narration, no telemetry. If the worker is down, you keep working: there's a 7-day grace window before the app starts asking again.
There is one more, and it happens once: the first time an install exports a video, we record that it got there. Six fields — an anonymous install ID, the app version, your OS name, the date, and whether the export came from the app or an agent. No project names, no files, no content, and no count of how many videos you make. Repeat exports send nothing. Switch it off in Settings → Privacy, or launch with FLOWFRAME_NO_MILESTONES=1.
What about Windows and Linux?
macOS only for now (12+ on Apple Silicon or Intel). If you'd use it on Windows or Linux, tell us — it genuinely helps us prioritize.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — 7 days, full functionality, no credit card. Just download and start making videos.
What do I get with my license?
Everything. One price, all features, all updates while your license is active. No tiers, no feature gates, no per-seat pricing. The full list lives on the pricing page.
Is FlowFrame really made by one person?
Pretty much — built by Greg Meyer with help from a small army of AI agents. That means fast updates, direct support, and no committee deciding the roadmap. Email us and you'll hear back from someone who actually wrote the code.
